CAN CEE - NEW START

During the Solta seminar on Climate Change (August 29-September 1, 2006) CAN CEE issue was raised again. The participants from Central and Eastern Europe expressed their visions and stressed their willingnes to get and work together and thus revive the network again.  This notion came despite the fact that there are no funds for the network and no coordinator now.

ACTIVITIES

CAN CEE web page will be the platform to exchange the views and update our joint activities.

During the meeting Irina was also appointed as the representative of CAN CEE in CAN-Europe Board.

It was agreed that there are several upcoming Climate change activities which deserve the attention of CAN CEE and which could be chosen for the joint networking activities. Following issues were selected :

1. IPCC 4th Report . There are some activities related to this issue going on in Czech Republic. The information and experiences will be shared among the CAN CEE members

2. COP in Nairobi - 4th November - Street Actions. Exchange the views of other NGOs activities.

3. Post-Kyoto commitments. Negotiations related to this issue should be followed closely. Back-up paper information of CAN-E should be used and Seminar in Ljubljana (October 2006) should be attended by CAN CEE NGOs.

4. Stand-By and Off Consumption Campaign. Ann Vikelso from Denmark presented the information of of their work and potential for power savings in every country. Their experiences could be used by CAN CEE NGOs for the activities in CAN CEE countries.

5. Vision 2050 - Alternative Energy Scenarios. The NGO view on how energy consumption should look like in the future and how it can develope into 100% share of renewables is the core of this analytical tool provided by INFORSE. It can be used by any NGO and any country in CAN CEE region in order to prepare the alternative energy scenario development. Green Action Croatia is willing to prepare such a plan in 2007.

CO-OPERATION

It was suggested that closer co-operation with AGREE.NET , SEEENN (South-Eastern European Environmetal Network), INFORSE and Bankwatch is really needed. Especially joint activities on climate issues with AGREE.NET NGOs could be helpfull for the CAN CEE.
